Government savings scheme has low take up in Rotherham

Less than 60 people in Rotherham, on low incomes, have taken advantage of a Government saving scheme.

"Help to Save" rewards those receiving working tax credit, child tax credit or universal credit with the account by giving them an extra 50p for every pound they put away.

People in Rotherham have saved in total just over £5,000 - that's in comparison to Doncaster where more than £80,000 has been saved through the scheme.
