Rise in number of children who will be homeless on Christmas in Yorkshire

While most children will wake up on Christmas morning to unwrap presents in their own home - 820 youngsters in across Yorkshire and the Humber will wake up in temporary accommodation.

Shelter research found a nine percent increase in the number of homeless under 18's in Yorkshire and the Humber over the last five years.

Poppy Terry from the charity says many families are hidden away in hostels or BnBs - which are unsuitable for youngsters.

The charity has found no youngsters will be homeless here in Rotherham.
